Guided Group Tours

Our volunteer Zoo guides lead free walking tours for groups of ten or more. Tours are available year-round. To arrange a guided tour for your group of scouts, school children, seniors, or others, call (415) 753-7073 or email zooguide@sfzoo.org.

We can provide a tour on any Zoo subject. Following is a list of some of the most popular topics. For school groups, our tours are aligned with California Science Content Standards (SCS) and are for children in grades one and up.

 

African Animals  1 hour, aligns with California SCS for grades 1-4, 6

Good for young children because it involves our larger, more spectacular picture book animals.

 

Environments & Habitats  1.5 hours, aligns with California SCS for grades 1-4, 6, 7

Compare and contrast living and non-living aspects of diverse environments, from deserts to rainforests, savanna to mountains, and oceans to tundra.

 

Animal Adaptations  1.5 hours, aligns with California SCS for grades 1, 3, 4, 6

Concentrates on visible external adaptations that animals have that allow them to survive.

 

Shifting the Balance  1.5 hours, aligns with California SCS for grades 3, 4, 6, 7, 9-12

Introduces and explores the causes of wildlife endangerment.

 

Primates  1 hour, aligns with California SCS for grades 3, 4, 6, 7, 9-12

Learn all about our prosimians, monkeys and apes and the habits and behaviors of these primates.

 

Rainforest Animals  1.5 hours

Focuses on the biological diversity of this most endangered terrestrial ecosystem.

 

Zoo Careers  1 hour

Learn all about what our Zoo keepers do as well as the other careers available in this field.

 

 

Self-Guided Tours

These packets are offered by The San Francisco Zoological Society as an aid to teachers (aligns with the California Science Standards) planning on a field trip to the San Francisco Zoo. This self-guided tour can be used to supplement class studies.  Pre- and post-trip activities can make the trip an integral part of a class lesson plan.
